竹谷出「オルタナティブ – もうひとつの写真 -」

写真家竹谷出は、各地を歩きながらフィルムで風景や人々を撮影しながら作品制作をし続けている。約20年前からは「モノ」としての写真に注目し、英語の手引書を元に研究しながら、古典的印画法で作品を制作し続けてきた。
本展では、アンソタイプ、鶏卵紙、サイアノタイプ、カーボンタイプ、プラチナプリント、カリタイプ、ブロムオイルといった19世紀初頭～20世紀初頭より受け継がれているさまざまな古典技法をおおよその時代順に展示している。古典技法の作品には、印画紙や薬剤の違いはもちろん、その日の温度や湿度、作家の手の温度などが織りなすわずかな違いによるゆらぎが存在する。
そのゆらぎが大きな魅力であり、唯一無二の「モノ」としての存在感を際立たせている。作家はイメージを「写す」こと以上に、写真そのものに内包する光や時間、温度や湿度などを静かに掘り起こすことを試みている。
光と影の深淵を巡る旅はまだまだ続く。

Photographer Izuru Takeya has long dedicated himself to capturing landscapes and people on film while traveling extensively. Roughly twenty years ago, his focus shifted toward the physical essence of photography as an “object.” Guided by English instructional texts, he began researching and creating works through historical printing processes.
This exhibition showcases a diverse range of alternative processes inherited from the early 19th to the early 20th centuries—including Anthotype, Albumen print, Cyanotype, Carbon print, Platinum print, Kallitype, and Bromoil—presented in approximate chronological order. In these historical prints, subtle fluctuations arise not only from differences in photographic paper and chemicals but also from the ambient temperature, humidity, and even the warmth of the artist’s own hands.
These inherent fluctuations are a significant part of the work’s allure, heightening its presence as a one-of-a-kind “object.” Rather than merely “capturing” an image, the artist seeks to quietly unearth the light, time, temperature, and humidity inherent within the photograph itself.

His journey through the abyss of light and shadow continues.

1967年：広島県生まれ
1989年：アフリカ12ヵ国を1年かけて旅したのをきっかけに写真を始める
1991年〜1998年：中国を計7回（延べ8ヵ月間）旅し、撮影
1997年〜2001年：韓国を計11回（延べ9ヵ月間）旅し、撮影
